MSRTC Senior Officials Get Three Times Basic Salary Hike

Senior officials of the Maharashtra State Road and Transport Corporation (MSRTC) have received a triple increase in their base salary. These increases had been planned for seven years.

The salary will cover all 200 senior personnel in the transport organisation, from depot managers to general managers. They have also allegedly been guaranteed the payment of past-due debts dating back to 2016. MSRTC has had recurring financial issues since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the initial closure, MSRTC's daily earnings fell from Rs 24 crores in the pre-pandemic period to Rs 20 lakhs. This huge decline in income impacted MSRTC's already precarious financial situation.

With all of the financial difficulties, the firm even delayed the salary for extended periods of 2 to 5 months in 2019 and 2020. Employees of the MSRTC went on strike for a month in 2021. It all started when transport workers wanted a rise in their base pay. To end the nearly month-long protest, Anil Parab, the transport minister, announced a salary increase for staff, lifting their average rise from Rs 2500 to Rs 5000.
