The talk of Mental Health or Well-being has become very important now-a-days not only for normal people but also for corporate sector. In the corporate sector many companies have started looking after the mental well-being of their employees. Many suggests that this not only makes their mental condition better but also enhance the productivity.
The reasons that could be considered for the low mental health are low self-esteem, poor communication and social skills, emotional trauma and many other. However many organisations have taken steps like reducing work load, flexible time, work from remote locations, understanding their needs, etc. The steps like Medical Insurance is a necessary step but now companies are also looking after the families of their employees in terms.
According to the WHO estimates that the burden of mental health problems in India is 2443 disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) per 10,000 population; the age-adjusted suicide rate per 100,000 population is 21.1. The economic loss due to mental health conditions, between 2012-2030, is estimated at the cost of USD 1.03 trillion.
Since Businesses are meant to make profit. It becomes difficult to convince the top leadership to invest in these kind of activities as they don’t have ROI in monetary terms. It becomes important for any organisation to take care of it.
Meenakshi Thakur, Head of Human Resources, Runaya & Manager said,” Every oragnisation takes care of their employees but the most important point is taking care of the family. Once the employee is satisfied about the well-being of family and children, the productivity goes up. For the family we can have the social clubs, for children sports and educational facilities and medical facilities for the entire family.”
Kavita Dasan, Vice President - People Practice Team, ABP Network said” Well-being is non-negotiable, our 70% work force was working from ground zero in Pandemic. During Covid-19 there was no lock down for media as people were looking for updates. Anything that was required was taken care of from safety to well-being of our people. If things like career Well Being, Physical Well Being, Social Well Being, community well beings are taken care of the mental well-being comes as an outcome.”
Things have changed drastically after the Pandemic , Work from home gave people flexibility but also caged them in their room. Following a monotonous routine cannot be considered as the only reason for not being mentally well. The need for medical systems is undeniable for any organization to Diagnos any disorder and for treatment as well.
R.N. Murthy, Managing Director, Tata Tinplate said, “We invested in medical care significantly, we have access to TATA health facility in Jamshedpur and to several other hospitals. When health and specialist
are required they are readily available to all employees. In some cases counselors and psychiatrist are used where mental support is required for medical reasons. We have a fully functional hospital even at the 40 per cent occupancy.”
