LG is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to human resources (HR). The South Korean conglomerate is pursuing a long-term strategy that places human resources at the centre of its efforts to ensure long-term success, aggressively recruiting top-tier talent and utilising a variety of programmes to nurture current employees as they develop into highly capable leaders.
The chairman and CEO Koo Kwang-mo spearheaded this comprehensive approach, expressing a strong desire to find and develop talented employees.
LG implemented an aggressive recruitment strategy to supplement the company's approaches to developing internal talent. Koo wasted no time in recruiting new and highly qualified members from all over the world. His first overseas trip as CEO was to Silicon Valley in the United States, where he sought master's and doctoral candidates in various fields of science and technology.
The strategy has already resulted in a number of high-profile hires. LG hired more than 100 executive-level employees between 2018 and May of this year.
The company is also working to make its workforce younger and more diverse. LG has consistently increased the number of young, dynamic team members capable of responding to change and driving innovative customer experiences.
LG is also actively seeking competent women from outside sources to fill key positions as the company embraces new and innovative perspectives to help drive growth. The appointment of two female CEOs last year marked a significant milestone in the recruitment programme. Lee Jung-ae, formerly of Coca-Cola, was promoted to President and named CEO of LG Household and Healthcare, while Executive Vice President Park Ae-ri was named CEO of HSAd.
