KSRTC Hikes Employees' Family Welfare Relief To Rs 10 Lakh

In an employee-friendly move, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) boosted the relief amount from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, the biggest in the transport utility's history. In the event of an employee's demise due to illness or accident, the relief sum is paid to the employee's family.

The higher assistance sum, known as the Employees' Family Welfare Scheme, is solely available to KSRTC employees. The BMTC and two other transport corporations operate under a distinct framework.

According to officials, the relief sum is in addition to the Rs 1 crore accident relief payout paid to employees who pass away either on or off duty. This compensation has been awarded in seven cases so far.

KSRTC estimates around 100 deaths each year owing to ailments such as cancer, stroke, heart attack, kidney failure and so on, demonstrating the demanding nature of the job, particularly for those working behind the wheel.

Employees would contribute Rs 200 per month instead of Rs 100 under the scheme, while the corporation will boost its contribution from Rs 50 to Rs 100 on behalf of each employee. This updated system will go into effect on 1 November 2023.
