Kerala Govt To Seize 25% Pay Of Employees Disobeying Dying In Harness Scheme

On Wednesday, the Kerala government decided to take action against those who received government jobs under the dying in harness scheme if they were found to neglect the other dependants of the deceased employee.

The decision came after a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The cabinet clarified that the employees under the provision are liable to protect other dependants of the deceased employees.

The meeting concluded with issuing an order authorising the appointing authorities to deduct 25 per cent of the monthly basic pay of the workers not protecting and paying to the eligible dependents.

If the employees fail to take care of the dependents under the dying in harness provision, including covering their food, property, shelter, treatment, and care, the dependents can lodge a written complaint against authorities.

If proven guilty, the amount of 25 per cent will be deposited in the dependent's account and will be investigated further. However, the dependents are not entitled to protection because they are currently receiving family pension.
