Infosys, the country’s second-largest IT services firm, has plans to hire approximately 15,000-20,000 fresh graduates in the financial year 2025. This brings hope to recent and upcoming college graduates following a significant reduction in IT job offers last year.
In FY24, Infosys hired 11,900 freshers, a sharp decline of 76 per cent from over 50,000 freshers hired in FY23.
Speaking at the company’s first-quarter earnings conference on July 18, Chief Financial Officer Jayesh Sanghrajka stated, “In the past several quarters, we have shifted to an agile hiring model. We recruit freshers both on and off campus. This quarter saw a net decline of 2,000 employees, which is lower than previous quarters. With our utilisation rate at 85%, we have limited headroom left. As we begin to see growth, we will ramp up hiring.”
Sanghrajka added, “We aim to hire 15,000-20,000 freshers this year, depending on our growth projections.” He did not disclose the number of freshers onboarded in Q1.
As of the first quarter, Infosys’ headcount decreased by 1,908, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of decline. In comparison, peers like TCS added 5,452 employees on a net basis, although TCS’ overall headcount dropped by 1,759 sequentially compared to the March period. HCLTech's headcount declined by 8,080 sequentially in Q1FY25.
