Indigo Imposes Mandatory LWP Policy For Senior Employees

IndiGo Airlines has started a compulsory leave without pay (LWP) policy for its senior employees for around four days per month till September. This step was taken due to low passenger traffic during the second wave of COVID in the country.

Based on the employee class or category, the employees will have to take mandatory LWP for 1.5 to 4 days a month. The lowest band of employees i.e. bands A and B are not included in the plan, whereas the Pilots are bound to take three days unpaid off for three months, that is, till August 2021.

Regarding the implementation of the policy on non-crew staff, the company responded, "Number of days applicable for non-crew flight operation employees will be informed by their vertical heads shortly."

The aviation sector is badly affected yet again by another wave of the pandemic. Daily domestic air traveler traffic has fallen to under 1 lakh since May 5, which was observed as high as 3 lakh in February 2021. Due to less air traffic, the government has also reduced domestic aviation capacity to 50 percent from 80 percent earlier.
