According to a media report, hundreds of labourers in Karnataka working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) have been without pay for nearly six months. Employees covered by the statute are unable to make ends meet. The reason for the payment delay has been attributed to technical issues.
Employees under the NREGA across the state have not received their salaries for six months, according to sources speaking with a media house. In Kodagu, 32 people are employed by NREGA. Among the crucial positions are Assistant Director Coordinating Officer, district accounts manager, district management information system and district education officer.
As per Varnit Negi, the CEO of the Zilla Panchayat, there has been a delay in crediting salaries to several employees, however, the central government is finalising some technological aspects, and the situation is expected to be rectified soon.
He noted that changes have occurred at the government level even while the mapping and remapping of Zilla Panchayats continues. "A new module will be released soon, and the problem will be fixed." "We are closely monitoring the situation," he continued.
