Haryana government decided to implement the ‘no work-no pay’ principle resulting in protests by 15,000 clerks in the state. The protests led to a lack of functioning of the state officers, leaving the management without the help of workers disturbing the governance's smooth functioning.
The clerks went on strike from 5 July 2023 demanding basic pay equivalent to similar rank posts in the government departments. The clerks asked for a raise in their current salary from Rs 19,900 to a minimum of Rs 35,400 per month.
Two meetings were held with the protesters to address their issues. Haryana CM’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Jawahar Yadav stated that the asked pay cannot be given to the clerks at this point, however, they are working towards resolving the issue. Additionally, the government is considering empowering the tehsildars to ensure the smooth functioning of tehsils to prevent any problems in land registrations amid the ongoing protests.
