E-commerce Employees Report Higher Degree Of Mental Health Issues

Sunita, an operations supervisor at one of the leading e-commerce companies got reprimanded by her manager thrice in a matter of a couple of days for the wrong delivery of products.

Another executive working at the back end in the call centre vertical of the same e-commerce company finds it tiring to address customer complaints day in and day out, although a part of the process has been automated.

And when it comes to the senior level employees, the stakes only get higher. Long working hours and tight deadlines are a common feature of most of the jobs in the e-commerce industry according to a report released by Mpower, the mental health wing of Aditya Birla Education Trust.

While e-commerce companies have made life of the general public, a matter of convenience, the employees who work in the sector don't have it that easy.

The Mental Health and Wellness Quotient @Workplace 2023' survey by the foundation said that employees working in the e-commerce sector are at the highest risk of mental health problems like anxiety and depression.

It is high time that dialogue around mental health in corporate workplaces gathers pace and support measures and initiatives on employee wellbeing come to the fore.
