Devic Earth Launches Heat Management Policy For Employees Amid Sweltering Temperatures

To combat the hazards associated with heatwaves and soaring temperatures, Devic Earth, a clean-tech start-up based out of Bengaluru is amongst the first to formally roll out a well-formulated Heat Policy for its employees. In wake of concern for the employees working both outdoors and indoors in different conditions across various belts in the country, the policy that was rolled out last month will pave the way for other industry leaders to follow.

The Heat Management Policy addresses measures for both indoor and outdoor worksites. The policy focuses on the prevention of Heat Stress, and other occupational injuries and illnesses due to the rising temperature. The policy lays down the guidelines that advise the employees on exposure to heat in a phased manner on daily basis with not more than an increment of 20% of exposure every day for those not habitual to heat. The employees are advised to avoid activities such as heavy exertion and prolonged exposure to humidity and sun as it leads to heat stress. The policy also implements steps such as frequent monitoring for symptoms, avoiding protective dressing and preferring loose and breathable fabric at work, and drinking water to avoid dehydration. The policy is an appropriate step in the continuation of the company’s commitment to workplace safety by understanding the challenges and identifying and sharing the best practices to protect the workforce.

A quote from the CEO and COO: On this announcement, Devic Earth’s CEO - Dr. Srikanth Sola said ‘Devic Earth, we cater to a set of global companies across cement, mining, steel, chemicals and more and these Fortune 500 companies are often located in very remote territories with harsh temperatures due to the manufacturing process. While strict safety measures are outlined by the industries, Devic Earth’s policies are aimed at staying one step ahead to cater to newer challenges like rising temperatures to ensure our employees and customers are happy.’

Chief Operating Officer - Bhooma Krishnan adding to the same said ‘Employees are the backbone of our company and are often exposed to different working conditions. As a cleantech company, all our policies are designed as industry firsts like adoption policy, hospitalisation leaves for family members, generous leaves during covid, strong training and induction programs for new employees, and professional development opportunities for mid-senior employees.
