Delhi High Court announced pay equity for government and unaided private school teachers. The decision came as a response to a private school’s plea petition. The plea challenged the guidelines of the Seventh Central Pay Commission (CPC).
The bench comprising Justice Manmohan and Justice Mini Pushkarna, heard the plea of three private school teachers, directing the school to pay them as per the 7th pay commission.
The court stated that the schools cannot evade their statutory responsibility to pay the dues. Private schools will be liable to pay allowances, medical facilities, gratuity, pension and other employee benefits equivalent to those of government schools.
According to the Delhi School Education (DSE) Act 1973, all recognised schools need to implement the recommendations of the 7th CPC. Thereof, providing the same pay to the teachers of unaided private schools as those of government schools, under the DSE Act.
The ruling serves as an affirmation to private school teachers establishing fair and equitable compensation.
