The Bihar government on July 01 said that contractual women staff will be entitled to 6 months of paid maternity leave. This employee welfare notification makes contractual employees on par with regular employees.
It means that the former category of employees will be entitled to 6 months of paid maternity leave, which can be availed in a single block or in two blocks of 3 months each. "The decision had been taken to "ensure that women employees are not deprived of their rights", said Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Labour Minister for State.
Applicability: The new policy will apply to all contractual women staff who have been working in the state government for at least one year.
No other benefit: The leave will be paid at the same rate as the employee's regular salary. However, the employee will not be entitled to any other benefits during the leave period, such as bonus or overtime pay.
