Cleartrip Accelerates Its Growth Strategy In 2022, Ramps Up Workforce By 60%

Cleartrip, India’s fastest-growing travel booking portal, has recently increased its workforce strength by 60% this quarter and plans to further ramp up its employee headcount by 40% in the coming quarter across tech, product, growth and emerging business. The increase will effectively take Cleartrip’s workforce to 700 employees by December 2022, a three-fold increase from 240 employees in October 2021. A large number of the hiring has been dedicated towards supporting Cleartrip’s plans to scale up its Hotels category business by hiring across regions in India to build out its hotel vertical portfolio as well as build the technology and product teams for this category. The hiring is across popular destinations in India including Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab. The expansion is further to the brand’s commitment to increase the range of stay options available to customers through its partners and affiliates as well as offerings across other travel segments.

The announcement comes on the back of Cleartrip’s recent acquisition by the Flipkart Group- part of Walmart Group, which has accelerated the brand’s growth strategy to make Cleartrip an end-to-end travel app by the end of 2022. Despite the surge in cases due to the omicron variant that led to a slowdown in travel from December 2021 up to January 2022, the lockdown has led to a pent up demand in travel that will drive growth for the travel sector. Cleartrip continues to accelerate on its expansion plans with a medium to long-term strategy and an immediate focus on ramping up its Hotels category business and other business verticals through this year.

Speaking on their plans, Ayyappan Rajagopal, CEO, Cleartrip, said, “Cleartrip has been witnessing steady recovery as customer confidence slowly but surely returns to pre-COVID levels. At this juncture, it is the opportune time to scale up our business, which is understandably recovering slower than other sectors. By hiring top talent from the industry across levels, we are infusing fresh energy and ideas into our teams, setting us up for success. As we move forward in 2022, one of our key goals this year is to bring more offerings, scale up our existing verticals to bring more digitally-enabled travel experiences for our customers to boost their confidence while travelling during what has been a difficult time.”
