Centre Likely To Increase DA For Govt Employees By 3%

The centre may announce a boost in the dearness allowance (DA), according to DNA on 4 October, as government employees wait for salary increases ahead of the festive season.

According to reports, prime minister Narendra Modi would approve the move to raise the dearness allowance during a cabinet meeting. If announced, this would be an ideal pre-Navratri present for central personnel and pensioners.

The cabinet decision on this topic is viewed as critical because the Election Commission can announce assembly election dates in five states at any time. Following the enforcement of the code of conduct, the government may find it difficult to make this judgement.

Since July, central staff and pensioners have been expecting a rise in their dearness allowance, which is expected to increase from 42 per cent to 45 per cent. If raised, the October wage is expected to include the higher dearness allowance as well as arrears from July to September. Furthermore, the move will benefit 47 lakh employees and 68 lakh retirees, relieving them of the burden of growing inflation.
