In a move towards building a more inclusive workplace, CARS24, the auto-tech company, has introduced a Flow Time-Out Leave (period leave) for its female and transgender employees. Effective from September, the initiative allows women and transgender employees to take a day off at any time during the month, no questions asked. This decision aligns with CARS24's goal of fostering a supportive work environment, even though only 15 per cent of its workforce is currently female.
Vikram Chopra, co-founder and CEO of CARS24, shared his thoughts in a company blog post: “Starting this month, all women and transgender individuals at CARS24 can take the day off when they need it during their period. Why? Because I understand how difficult it is to focus when you're in pain.”
Chopra emphasised that this policy is more than just a corporate directive—it’s personal: “It’s about acknowledging that our female and LGBTQIA+ employees deserve better. Each month, those who menstruate will have the option to take a day for themselves without needing approval. It’s about prioritizing health and well-being because no one should have to push through pain to prove their commitment."
Additionally, Chopra addressed male employees, urging them to normalise the discussion around period leave: “Our female colleagues taking flow time-out should not make us uncomfortable. This is part of life and an important reason why we have life. While we may never fully understand what they experience, we can at least trust their need for this break.”
CARS24 has also assured its employees that any form of harassment or inappropriate comments regarding the policy will be swiftly dealt with. Employees are encouraged to report such behavior to the POSH team or via the company's designated email for complaints, ensuring a safe and respectful work environment.
