The Bihar government approved a 4 per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for state employees and dearness relief (DR) for pensioners on Wednesday. During a cabinet meeting, chief minister Nitish Kumar made this decision.
According to the news agency PTI, employees in the state currently receive a 42 per cent DA, which has been increased to 46 per cent under the 7th Pay Commission.
The DA increase takes effect on 1 July 2023, allowing employees to receive arrears for the months of July and October. This decision will benefit approximately 4.5 lakh Bihar state government employees, as well as approximately six lakh pensioners.
According to Live Hindustan, the increased DA will be reflected in December salaries, and employees will also receive arrears for the four-month period.
Several states and union territories, including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, have raised DA and DR during the Dussehra and Diwali festive season, according to a Live Mint report.
