In a landmark decision on Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BBCI) said that match fee for contracted men and women cricketers will be same.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that the senior women cricketers would be paid the same match fee as men cricketers.
In a social media post, Shah said he was delighted to announce that BCCI is making its first step towards tackling discrimination.
Pay equity has been implemented for the contracted BBCI women cricketers, Shah said.
He also mentioned the fee rates for the Test match as Rs 15 lakhs, ODI for Rs 6 lakhs, and T20I for Rs 3 lakhs. He thanked the Apex Court for its support.
Earlier, the New Zealand Cricket Board took a similar decision of equal pay for men and women players.
