As a part of one of the initiatives ‘Illness to Wellness’, The Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) CSR has organised a webinar on ‘Mental Wellness at Workplace’. The webinar aimed to put forward mental health as the priority in the workplace and spread awareness to create a balance between work-life and mental health. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), more than half the world’s population is currently employed and 15 per cent of working-age adults live with a mental disorder.
Founder and director of Total Care Control, Delhi – NCR EC Member, Rajesh Kesari said that It is important to make people aware of their mental illness and stress, and also how to make it their priority. Indian author, columnist and Yoga teacher Ira Trivedi talked about how stress influences an individual's mental health. She said, “human eyes are directly connected to the brain.” She also suggested reducing screen time in order to sustain good mental health.
The popular Indian actress, Jannat Zubair also gave her insights on her dealing with the stress in daily life. She admitted how intimidating it can be at work “with people judging you and your work”. When a “sense of self-doubt” creeps in, she said “it is important to talk it out with your friends, family or counsellor to cope with the situation. Interpersonal Communication is the key, and one must reach out to close ones in tough times.
The workplace is the second home of an individual that occupies a major space in someone’s life, the relationship with colleagues, the approach of seniors and works pressure matter in a person's mental well-being. Therefore, workplaces should have proper guidelines and regulations to deal with employees' minds.
