Serving as 5th Minister of Women and Child Development since 2024 is Annpurna Devi from tribal-led state Jharkhand succeeds Smriti Irani in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s third term government.
Previously, Devi has served as the Union Minister of State for Education in Modi’s 2021 government, and was elected to the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, from Kodarma. In 2019 she defeated former CM Babulal Marandi by 4.55 lakh votes as a BJP candidate
It shouldn't come as a surprise that in this year's Lok Sabha elections, Devi won by the biggest margin in Jharkhand, defeating the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) candidate Vinod Singh with a margin of 3,77,014 votes.
