Airbus To Cut 750 Jobs In Defense Reorganisation

According to labor union sources, Airbus plans to cut 750 jobs as part of a restructuring of its defense and space activities. This change affects about 2 per cent of the total number of employees.

The company intends to accomplish this without resorting to mandatory layoffs, relying instead on attrition and failing to fill certain job openings over the next two years. The restructuring came in response to a financial loss in the defense and space division, which was attributed to a 300-million-euro charge related to unspecified satellite developments.

The reorganisation, known as ATOM, aims to simplify various programmes and streamline the organisational structure in order to address challenges in Europe's fragmented arms industry. The spokesperson emphasised that the goal is to clarify responsibilities as well as cut costs, according to Reuters.

Guillaume Faury, the CEO, is tasked with restructuring and cutting costs while managing various national sovereignty businesses. Starting in January, Faury will step back from day-to-day plane making operations to focus on strategic activities as part of a separate management reorganisation in its civil business.
