As the airline's fleet and operations grow, Air India has launched an interactive programme to hire students from business schools. On Thursday, the Tata Group-owned carrier announced the launch of SOAR (Spirit of Aviation Reimagined), a first-of-its-kind student interactive programme in the aviation industry.
This novel approach to exposing new talent to the nuances of the aviation industry will go a long way toward supplementing Air India's employee pool with the best talent, the company said in a release on Thursday.
SOAR is the airline's annual nationwide B-school competition based on business challenges, and it is part of the airline's campus outreach programme.
The loss-making carrier, which has embarked on a five-year transformation journey under the Tata Group, said its talent augmentation drives over the last year have received overwhelming response from the market and leading institutes, with the initial recruitment drive for management post-graduates attracting over 25,000 applicants in just over one week.
"Air India is actively reimagining its role in the aviation sector, and our journey to top campuses in the country is more than just a recruitment drive... SOAR is a platform that benefits industry, academia, and students all at the same time," said Suresh Dutt Tripathi, Air India's Chief Human Resources Officer.
Air India employs approximately 15,000 people.
