Aimed at understanding the migration patterns of today’s top tech talent. Catenon come up with its annual report titled ‘Which City Next: 2020 Understanding Senior Level Tech Talent Migration in India'. The report shows the tech roles across the six metros; their demand and supply and associated migration patterns. Over the last six months, the report looked at senior tech professionals and their approach towards migration; their city preference and key factors influencing their willingness.
The tech skills have emerged as the most sought after- Mobile developer, Data Science and Analytics, UI/UX Design, Machine Learning, Full Stack Developer, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Back end Developer.
The report aims to provide a deeper insight to business leaders for recruitment strategies in 2020 and analyses factors like quality of life, cost of living, average rent, traffic situation, air quality index and public transformation services affecting the migration psyche of tech talent.
“Competition is getting tougher for top tech talent. Not only are technology companies hiring tech professionals, but traditional industries and GICs have developed an unprecedented appetite for core technology skills. These organisations need an insight driven strategy to stay ahead in the talent game. Aligning one’s business strategy with talent pools will be crucial as talent optimization is set to directly affect the company’s success in 2020”, said Gaurav Chattur, Managing Director of Catenon APAC.
When it comes to migration in 2020, ‘Cultural affinity’ and ‘Environmental factors’ are the biggest concerns. Pune and Hyderabad are the top choices for migration, followed by Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. Out of all the respondents, 30 per cent more techies expressed a willingness to move into Pune than out of Pune. For Hyderabad, the entry of big players like Amazon, Google and Facebook has greatly helped with more than 50 per cent respondents choosing the city.
The Pearl City also has an advantage of being a cultural middle ground for north and south Indian migrants making it a popular choice for both. Bangalore continues to enjoy its ‘Silicon Valley’ status in India, with the highest salaries and diverse job opportunities in tech, but infrastructural concerns along with environmental factors like water pollution & waste management have caught on, to make it the third preference for migration.
The workforce of today is drastically different from what the traditional corporate playbooks historically defined it as. Catenon’s report observes that Employee Engagement will give way to People Experiences as organisations will need to mobilize the right talent to ensure sustained growth throughout this transformation. With 2020 spelling out change for all, Catenon aims to be the talent partner of organisations in this disruptive journey slated for the year.
