XLRI to Host National Conference on “Promoting Business Opportunities in North-East India” in Manipur

India's North East has long been neglected in terms of both economic and social development despite the richness of natural resources in the region. The North East presents a huge opportunity for investment and growth of business enterprises in the region. A critical appraisal of key economic indicators along with a detailed sketch of the individual strengths of these states is necessary to achieve a holistic framework to target growth in the region.

It is in this context that the Centre for Global Management and Responsible Leadership at XLRI- Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur and the Manipur Institute of Management Studies, Manipur University, Imphal are jointly organizing a National Conference from November 14th – 16th, 2017 at the Manipur Institute of Management, Manipur University, Imphal.

A Pre-Conference Case Workshop is being organized on November 14th, 2017 with the purpose of introducing case teaching methods and the importance of writing business cases for teaching purposes to faculty and doctoral students of North-East and also to guide in drawing out action plan for the region. The main conference is to be held on November 15th – 16th, 2017.

The objective of the conference is to draw out strategies for ‘Promoting Business Opportunities’ for the North-East India in the light of India’s ‘Act East’ policy.

The Conference is to be co-chaired by Prof. Ibohal Meitei (Director, Center for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, Manipur University), Prof. Pingali Venugopal (Chairperson, Centre for Global Management & Responsible Leadership, XLRI, Jamshedpur), Prof. Teidor Lyngdoh (Professor, Marketing Area, XLRI, Jamshedpur) and Prof. David F Marbaniang (Department of Business Administration, St Anthony's College, Shillong, Meghalaya).

The conference aims to provide a platform to policy makers, researchers and practitioners to present their understanding on how business opportunities could be promoted in the North Eastern states of India. Last date for submission of abstract is September 30th, 2017.
