Urban Unemployment Hits Lowest Level In 5 Years

According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey, India’s urban unemployment rate was 6.8% in the quarter ending March 2023, the lowest in at least five years. 

For the purpose of the survey, the unemployment rate (UR) is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons in the labour force. 

Further, a person was considered as unemployed in a week if he/she did not work even for 1 hour on any day during the reference week but sought or was available for work at least for 1 hour on any day during the reference week.
