Upskilling Is Key To Sustain In Current Competitive Environment

With over 10 yrs of experience and exposure in the Talent strategy segment, Evita Fernandes, Assistant Director, HRBP at Ernst & Young claims to have been fondly known for fostering a sense of belonging from a distance. 

She initiated a project focusing on 'Empathy' where the manager and the above group were to discuss the possible concerns of the team and define agreed ways of working which would be customised specifically to the group and followed as norms of working style. Transitioning from working out of the office to WFH mode is challenging for companies, hence Fernandes took this responsibility to cultivate a proper flow.

“Upskilling is the key to sustain in the current competitive environment. Hence, I didn’t leave any stone unturned in achieving quality certifications in Transformative leadership, Data science (Power BI Tool) and Design thinking. I have always been updated with the constant flow and upgrading, and therefore, in the era of digital disruption, have acquired and implemented digital innovations to the standard HR process like – Digital handbook and virtual hobby club,” asserts Fernandes.

As problems are part and parcel of everyone’s life, so has been the same with Fernandes as well. “In the current firm, during a focus session, a junior staff confided about favouritism being played in the team. Straight away in the upcoming focus Page discussion, I firmly initiated the discussion about the issue of favouritism and had highlighted this to the team lead on trends observed. The conversation leads to a defensive argument from the team lead. I handled the situation well in the subsequent meeting, as the conversation was made basis data analytics & reports which analysed that only 2 out of 6 managers were allocated on large projects,” states Fernandes.

She leads by her belief, according to which “ Running a project in Diversity and inclusiveness for female students aspiring to join the corporate finance industry is what should be the mindset of every professional going forward.
