TRUSTlab Diagnostics Introduces Period Leave Policy As A New Year Gift

TRUSTlab Diagnostics, a Hyderabad Based diagnostic care startup company has joined the bandwagon to gift its women workforce a paid menstrual leave every month starting from the New Year, says the Chairman & MD Venkata Suman Cherukuri. Our organization is one of the few in the industry to introduce this Policy.

Started in the year 2021 after witnessing the challenges people faced with extended wait for test results and shortage of testing centers to deliver timely testing which was urgently required during Covid-19 led to the inception of TRUSTlab. Within a short span of time Trustlab has expanded to the other southern cities like Vizag, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Guntur etc with plans of setting up more hi-tech diagnostic centers in the north, east and west region of India in the coming financial year.

The policy states that every female employee will be entitled to get twelve paid leaves in a year as "Menstruation Leave" which will not be calculated under casual or sick leave, or these "Menstruation Leaves" wouldn't hamper their casual/sick leave.

Starting from next year the program will be rolled out across verticals pan India. All the women employed in the company will get one extra leave every month, from January 2023 onwards. That means, besides other holidays, the women employees will be getting 12 extra holidays as their period leaves.

Talking about inspiration to implement this policy, Venkata reminisces, "while I was working in another organization as an employee, I used to notice one of my lady colleagues who would always feel sick every month. Upon enquiring about this I came to know it’s because of her period cramps. Many times, women force themselves to go to work because they are hesitant to discuss menstrual pain to their superiors."

During such times the immune system of women becomes weak due to excessive loss of blood. Since it was my dream to start on my own, I realized that employee’s wellbeing is very important in an organization. So, during the inception of Trustlab, I wanted my employees to be both physically and mentally fit so they can perform their duties well to ensure accurate and timely results.

Hence, she decided to bring this policy in place to cater to the wellbeing of the female staff while they dedicate themselves to take care of other patients.

Venkata believes that by introducing such a policy, women in the organization would be able to take the leave they require to rest when they need it the most. As a result, they will be happier and be more productive at work. They will get satisfaction from working in a women-friendly organization. Overall, it will help the company to gain that next level of trust, which can help boost employees’ productivity. Plus, when there is this level of trust and understanding, people want to come to work, and they want to do their very best.
