According to Bloomberg, electric car maker Tesla Inc plans to let go of some battery production employees at its Shanghai, China manufacturing plant.
The number of people to be laid off and the specific reason behind the layoff is yet not clear. Tesla has not yet commented on the issue.
Some of the workers have been given the option to transfer to different divisions such as stamping, painting, or general assembly.
Tesla’s Shanghai factory has approximately 20,000 employees and has the capacity to churn out about a million electric vehicles a year.
The Gigafactory is the company's largest and most productive plant, including the workers in the assembly building the Model Y and Model 3.
