Stellantis will lay off around 2,250 workers at its Mirafiori facility in Turin, Italy, in the next weeks due to low demand, unions announced on Monday, as reported by Reuters.
The layoffs will take place from 12 February to 3 March, affecting 1,250 workers who make the electric Fiat 500 and another 1,000 who make Maserati vehicles, according to a business representative, who confirmed a union statement.
Unions expressed alarm about the layoffs and asked for negotiations with the corporation as soon as possible. Stellantis implemented similar steps in late October and early November of previous year, when demand remained low.
Last week, an Italian organisation stated that purchasers were delaying the purchase of electric vehicles while waiting for the government to provide incentives to encourage adoption.
