Salesforce, a US cloud-based software business, is cutting off approximately 700 employees, or nearly 1 per cent of its global workforce, according to Reuters, quoting the Wall Street Journal.
Last year, Salesforce reduced its personnel by 10 per cent, amounting to 8,000 employees and closed certain operations. At the time, the decision was driven by investor pressure to cut costs.
However, in September 2023, the firm said that it would hire more than 3,000 individuals, following job cuts in January of previous year to increase margins.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has emphasised the tech industry's attention on safety protocols and trust principles in the creation of AI software to avoid any mishaps, saying, "We don't want a Hiroshima moment." We've seen technology go horribly wrong, and we've witnessed Hiroshima. We do not want to see an AI Hiroshima. We want to make sure we understand this now."
