Retail was the best rated sector on the workplace index for September 2017 and has the highest index value for the month, according to the ‘Workplace Index’ report by Jobbuzz. Infrastructure sector continues to score well on career growth aspects.
Work-life balance was the best rated in retail, followed by infrastructure, telecom and manufacturing. Telecom sector was at the second position, with highest work-culture rating. Infrastructure ranked third on the workplace index in September 2017.
The Indian retail industry has emerged as one of the most dynamic and fast-paced industries due to the entry of several new players. It accounts for over 10 per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and around 8 per cent of the employment.
The sector with highest workplace index value was also the ‘best pay master’ for the month. It also scored well on other critical workplace parameters such as ‘work-life balance’ and ‘work culture’.
Telecom sector was at the second position, with highest work-culture rating and infrastructure sector ranked third on the workplace index in September 2017.
‘Career growth’ has the lowest overall index value in September 2017, signifying that employees (across sectors) were unhappy with the career growth opportunities being offered to them by their employers.
Sanjay Goyal, Head of Product, Technology & Marketing, Times Jobs said, “Although the overall talent demand scenario in the retail sector wasn’t too exciting for the past few months, yet it is encouraging to see it being named as the best employer for September 2017. Interestingly, where salary dissatisfaction is a common concern for majority of employees, retail industry has won employee vote on this critical workplace aspect. A close look at the workplace index values for September 2017 reveals that salary satisfaction of employees from other sectors was nowhere closer to that of the retail sector. This itself is a great testimony for it to be adjudged as the ‘best pay master’ of the month.”
