Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons and a towering figure in Indian industry, has passed away at the age of 86. On Monday, the renowned industrialist had taken to social media to quash rumors regarding his health, clarifying that he was undergoing routine medical checkups due to his advanced age.
In a heartfelt statement, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, expressed deep sorrow, stating, "It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation."
Chandrasekaran described Tata as more than just a leader for the Tata Group, calling him a "mentor, guide, and friend." He emphasised Tata's dedication to excellence, integrity, and innovation, which helped the group expand globally while staying rooted in strong ethical values.
Reflecting on Tata’s philanthropic legacy, Chandrasekaran said, "From education to healthcare, his initiatives have left a deep-rooted mark that will benefit generations to come." Ratan Tata took over as chairman of the $100 billion steel-to-software conglomerate in 1991 and led the group, founded by his great-grandfather, until 2012.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a heartfelt post on X, reflected on his many interactions with Ratan Tata, recalling them with deep fondness. "My mind is filled with countless interactions with Shri Ratan Tata Ji. I would meet him frequently in Gujarat when I was the CM. We would exchange views on diverse issues. I found his perspectives very enriching. These interactions continued when I came to Delhi. Extremely pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and admirers in this sad hour. Om Shanti," Modi expressed.
