Happiness at the workplace is the new GenZ trend, but a few would know that it has been practiced since ages in its own way. Maslow’s need hierarchy theory talks about nothing but the satisfaction of needs of an employee, and emotional needs are one such crucial need.
Peace and satisfaction are the key to happiness. A peaceful mind is more concentrated and productive, it has the ability to not generate ideas but to fulfil it most effective way possible. Similarly, satisfaction encourages an individual to bring out the best of its ability.
Commenting on this at the BW People Happiest Workplace Event, Mahendra Inge, Head of Human Resource, Serum Institute of India, says, “At Serum, your ideation is highly encouraged and you are given the authority of work upon your idea. Micromanagement is the biggest enemy nowadays, but there is no such thing at our organisation. We believe in you and you know what is good for the company. Trust is important.”
“Unlike other organisation, we have 12-13 shifts because we believe in efficiency. Thus, we don’t want a guy to work endlessly for some 8 or 9 hours. However, just 4 hours of work with full efficiency is enough,” he further adds.
Job security, career enhancement, technological developments, soft-skill enhancement, appropriate career progression plan and no unrealistic expectations are the factor that makes a workplace full of happiness and fulfils the employees with peace and satisfaction.
“Serum was started way back in 1966, and work-life balance, world-class infrastructure, relaxed and flexible work culture is what the organisation has always believed in,” sums Inge.
