Ola Laying Off 200 Engineers

The leading company in cab service, Ola laid off nearly 200 engineers from software verticals to centralise and restructure the team for a new vision. These 200 engineers consist of 10 per cent of their total headcount. In an official statement, Ola said "The company currently has around 2,000 engineers and aims to increase its engineering talent pool to 5,000 over the next 18 months,".


Earlier, CNBC reported that nearly 500 employees are being laid off from the various software verticals of ANI technologies which operate as Ola Cabs. Ola recently shut down its used vehicle Ola Cars and Ola Dash as the company is more focused on its electric vertical.

However, Ola Electric's sales are diminishing and it sold 3,421 EV two-wheelers in August, a drop from 3,862 units the company sold in July. Many of the senior executives have quit Ola Electric in recent months, Ola Electric's head of advanced battery engineering, Ashok Saraswat, was one of them. While Olaclaims that they are planning to hire 5,000 engineers to strengthen the capabilities across battery, vehicles, cell and manufacturing 


Ola Electric recalled 6,656 vehicles after the battery explosion incidents increased in the country, As the Government is extra cautious over the EV measures and teams owned by the companies.
