The Madhya Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has directed officials to compile a list of employees who have been absent from their duties for several years. This initiative, spearheaded by the state's Finance Department, aims to identify and address employees who have gone missing without notifying their departments.
According to sources within the Finance Department, all state government departments, including those based in the Secretariat in Bhopal, district administrations and various other branches, have been instructed to locate these absentee employees. While there is no official count yet, estimates suggest that between 2,000 to 4,000 employees may be missing across the state.
District Collectors have been tasked with inspecting and preparing detailed reports on missing employees in their respective areas, which they are expected to submit to the Finance Department soon.
A senior official from the Finance Department stated, "State government employees who have been absent without notifying their departments for more than five years will be declared 'dice-non,'” a term used to describe unauthorised leave. The government is likely to take disciplinary action against such individuals.
The directive follows concerns over stalled work in several departments, despite sufficient staffing. Department heads, who have begun restructuring efforts to restore order in offices, noticed that some employees were unresponsive to official notices and failed to report to duty.
These missing employees continue to receive their monthly salaries and benefits from the state government, despite not fulfilling their job responsibilities.
