Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), today granted a certificate of accreditation to Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Gurugram, Haryana.
Akimasa Ishikawa, Hon’ble Vice Minister, METI, H.E Raj Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Tokyo, handed over the certificate to Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Officer, Global Automobile Marketing, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, at a ceremony held at METI office in Tokyo.
This 2nd JIM by Maruti Suzuki will train over 500 youth annually and is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of FY 2019-20. Maruti Suzuki’s first JIM, also METI accredited, is operational at Mehsana Gujarat, since 2017. The first batch from JIM Mehsana, received 100 percent placement last year.
A K Tomer, Executive Advisor, Corporate Social Responsibility, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Receiving accreditation from METI, for our second JIM, is a matter of great honour for us. We are thankful to both Indian and Japanese Government for their trust and belief in us. We are fully committed to the Government of India’s Skill Development initiative and continuously work towards enhancing the skill and knowledge of youth making them industry ready.”
Talking about the readiness of JIM Uncha Majra, he said, “The work is on full-swing and as per the timelines. We expect the institute to be operational in this academic year. We will start the admission process in the coming weeks.”
