Infosys, India's second-largest IT services business, revealed its decision to postpone campus hiring plans at a press conference following the release of its December quarter results.
Nilanjan Roy, the company's outgoing chief financial officer, stated that there is now no immediate need for university recruitment. Infosys is closely monitoring its utilisation and "flexi hiring" methodology and is wary about hiring directly from educational institutions.
This is the second consecutive quarter in which Infosys has skipped campus hiring.
The company's workforce decreased by 6,101 people in the quarter ending 31 December, continuing a trend of declining employee numbers for the fourth consecutive quarter. Despite the fall in overall personnel, the corporation recorded a good trend in attrition, which settled at 12.9 per cent, down from 14.6 per cent in the previous quarter during the last twelve months.
In contrast, rival Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has taken a proactive approach, announcing the start of its campus recruitment process for the upcoming fiscal year (FY25). While TCS's employee headcount fell by 5,680 in the same quarter, the company has stated that it will continue to attract fresh talent from college campuses in fiscal 2025.
