Google Layoffs: Some Contract Workers That Support YouTube Face The Axe

Google is reducing its contractual workforce who were providing services to YouTube and other social media work. The development comes after the contractors had formed a successful union.

In the present round of layoffs, the contractual employees at Cognizant and Accenture and Cognizant will be impacted by the job loss. But all is not lost for the laid-off employees. 

Contractual hiring on a project basis is a standard practice in the IT Industry. To put things into perspective, even regular employees on the payroll of the company are moved in and out of projects based on the stage of the project and the requirements of the client.

To look after the layoff compensation for the aggrieved employees, Google will provide paid training and job search assistance to them.
