French supermarket company Carrefour said on Wednesday that it has come up with three measures for ensuring equality at work for its women employees.
The company is going to make it a part of its policy to allow women employees 12 extra days of menstrual leaves per year.
The company shared the news on its LinkedIn account. The three categories of leaves mentioned in the company post are as under.
➡12 days off for those suffering from endometriosis
➡ 3 days following a miscarriage
➡ 1 day for those using an ART
"With these commitments, we hope to change the daily living conditions of the 50,000 women who work in France at Carrefour", reads the company post.
"Decisions concerning three health topics are still little recognized by our society. We accompany these measures with an awareness campaign for managers, in order to share the good behaviours to adopt in the face of these women's health issues at work. I hope that this decision will have a ripple effect for many companies and allow women to thrive in their work, without fear of being limited by their health," says Alexandre Bompard, Président, Carrefour.
While these policy changes remain discretionary for employers in major global markets, Spain became the first country to pass legislation on menstruation.
These are encouraging signs for women employees in the European and international markets, however, law and policy on the subject remain on the wishlist for many women employees in India.
