ESPN Announces Layoffs
ESPN is reportedly undertaking a three-phase layoff exercise as part of Disney's cost-cutting measures. The layoffs are going to affect on-air talent and management roles.
It is pertinent to note that the pandemic has changed the way consumers consume sports content. Needless to mention the current macroeconomic cycle that has forced businesses to prioritise manpower efficiency over and above any other variable.
"After much consideration, I have some difficult organizational decisions to share. We will be reducing our workforce, impacting approximately 300 valued team members, in addition to 200 open positions", Jimmy Pitaro was quoted as saying by CNBC in an internal memo", obtained by CNBC.
