The Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) industry growth is projected to grow at 45% CAGR. The promising picture of the sector means that the sector is going to be a high-volume employment generator in the next few years. A skill gap study undertaken by the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) states that the sector is likely to employ over 60 lakh people by 2025-26. If numbers tell you a story, the sector is expected to zoom past the US$215 billion mark by 2025-26.
To put things in perspective, the current statistics say that the sector employs around 12 lakh people in India.
The surge in numbers is contributed to multiple factors considering that nearly half of the EMS industry is dominated by the mobile phone segment and component sourcing and manufacturing takes up the second half of the pie.
If one takes a birds-eye view of the current geopolitical landscape and the post covid changes in how the EMS market operates. The Indian government on the other hand has been very encouraging and wants to attract other countries to set up its manufacturing plants in India through various schemes and incentives for EMS partners.
According to the study, the EMS market is conducive to growth and will consequently result in the creation of jobs for the following roles:
