Deel, a HR and payroll platform catering to global teams, has announced its expanded operations in India to support businesses in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. Over the past year, Deel's workforce in India has grown by 45 per cent, now making up more than 12 per cent of the company’s global headcount.
The team in India is spread across a range of functions, including sales, engineering and support, with employees working remotely from over 20 cities across the country.
India, recognised as the third-largest startup ecosystem globally, has experienced a rise in international expansion by local businesses, increasing the demand for seamless global workforce solutions. Deel’s suite of tools aims to address this need by simplifying the onboarding, management, and payment of international teams.
“India’s rapidly evolving business landscape offers significant growth potential,” said Mark Samlal, General Manager for the Asia-Pacific region at Deel.
Deel’s presence in India was strengthened by its 2022 acquisition of PayGroup, a payroll and human capital management firm with extensive operations in India and the Asia Pacific region. This acquisition brought over two decades of experience in the Indian market and expanded Deel’s capabilities.
With a valuation of $12 billion, Deel has achieved notable growth, reaching profitability in 2022 and posting $500 million in annual recurring revenue in 2023. The company has also made strategic acquisitions, including African-based PaySpace and German firm Zavvy, further enhancing its global payroll and HR offerings.
In July, Deel expanded its services with the acquisition of Hofy, an employee onboarding and device management company, enabling the launch of Deel IT, a comprehensive global IT services platform.
