Communication With Employees May Create Happiest Workplaces

Everyone wants to be happy while working either for their own organisation or for someone else. The culture of operations, policies and holding conversation with the employees in the organisation may create a positive work culture.

However very few in today’s world are able to keep themselves happy while working. With the bunch of reasons behind unhappiness, employees are unable to find one reason to make themselves happy towards their own work, as per a survey.

Covid in last two to three years contributed towards changing the working culture and created challenges for the employer’s post covid era. According to experts, globally the economy did not perform well and even the GDP growth rates could not flourish.

“Lay-offs and low GDP attracts social media attentions and employees generally become negative about Brands of the company. Biggest challenge faced companies post covid was growth and getting back to productivity level. Therefore, large number of changes are taking place in many organisations every month,” said Pushkar Kumar, Chief Human Resources Officer, Cairn Assets - Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd.

He thinks there is a lot of uncertainty as a consequence of covid. One has to be very careful with the change management strategy before inducting anyone.

Unemployment was its peak and however still many companies during the pandemic tried to keep the employees on roll and do best to overcome the crisis, he further added.

Talking about people’s behaviour during in post covid era and taking initiatives to bring them back, Global Operations Leader of Innover, Umang Sharma said, “People do not want to get back to work after covid. They are looking for balance in work life. They need to be empowered and so we allowed them to interact with existing employees during their induction at the organisation. Senior management talked to the new employee.”

Adding further he said to motivate the employees towards their work, make them look at themselves as an entrepreneur with a salary.

The Chief Human Resources Officer of Vedanta Limited, TSPL, Hemant Kumar Bhatia highlighted the key challenges in post covid era and said, “People stopped going for big firms post covid. They are approached small start-ups to stay close to their family. They stopped caring about big names and firms. Vedanta introduced new changes in HR policies to deal with all such problems.”

Reflecting on retention policy for contractual employees, Hemant said employees connect with HODs, CHROs, Managers, other senior management people and giving higher leadership roles creates good efficiency.

Knowing about certain people and their reasons behind them leaving the organisation, sending gifts to family members and giving scholarships to the employees’ kids, Human Resource (HR) manager’s treatment, listening and allowing them to open them up with what

they require, establishing good relationship with the employee, was discussed by the panel on traits of happiest workplace at the BW Happiest Workplace 2022 Awards.
