CNN Slashes 100 employees From Its 3500 Employee Base

According to CNN Worldwide's CEO Mark Thompson in a memo shared, the news media has also planned on investing in video operations and launch pay-per-view news products

In the name of consolidating news operations and bolstering digital business, the US news outlet CNN will have to layoff atleast 100 employees of its strong workforce of 3500 employees.

The US-based media firm is planning to merge its news-gathering team and digital news team. According to CNN Worldwide's CEO Mark Thompson in a memo shared, the news media has also planned on investing in video operations and launch pay-per-view news products.

"We are building a billion dollar+ digital business of the future," he said in the memo.

Thompson also outlined various changes to CNN's editorial workflows, such as implementing a centralized planning and pitching process and introducing a new "story manager" role responsible for overseeing all aspects of a story from inception to publication or airing.
