Some members of the engineering and technicians' union have stated that they would leave Boeing if they were forced to return to work full-time.
Boeing Commercial Division CEO Stanley Deal first mentioned the elimination of hybrid schedules in an all-employee meeting in October.
Boeing stated in a statement that they have moved more employees to the office and are now asking everyone to return to their pre-pandemic policy. It's a move that requires employees to return to the office for 40 hours per week, which is stricter than Amazon's and Microsoft's hybrid policies.
"I can get a lot more done if I wake up at 5 a.m. and get to work right away and don't have to fight traffic coming in," an employee of Boeing said, as per media reports.
"We have heard from some of our members that if they are mandated to work full-time in office, they will look for other options," said Bryan Corliss, a spokesperson for the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA).
Managers, according to SPEEA, can allow employees to work remotely when it is appropriate for their department. The union hopes Boeing will maintain this policy, as employees currently work a hybrid schedule to varying degrees.
