New York and Delhi NCR-based automation startup Cogito has sacked off around 177 employees. The company claims that the impacted employees were part of a project that was scrapped.
However, employees said that they did not receive any notice from the company. According to a media report, the startup has closed its operations at the office where the impacted employees were posted.
The employees protested, alleging that they were not given any notice before being fired and that the company didn’t pay their salaries. However, the company claims that it has paid full salaries to the employees and that they were informed.
Tech startups have been laying off significant pie of their workforce. Most of the companies have been citing rightsizing, cost cutting, a funding crunch, and the performance of their employees as reasons for the layoffs.
