Apple To Shut 121-Person AI Team In Big Reshuffle

According to Bloomberg, Apple is closing down a 121-person team responsible for enhancing Siri, potentially putting many staff at danger of termination.

The team from San Diego has been invited to relocate to Austin and join with the Texas portion of the same team.

Apple has reportedly given employees till the end of February to decide whether to relocate. If they do not, the employees will be sacked on 26 April. The group includes offices in China, India, Ireland and Spain.

An Apple spokesperson confirmed the decision, stating that the company will put its "Data Operations Annotations teams in the US together at our campus in Austin, where a majority of the team is already based,” as per Bloomberg’s report.

The relocation could result in the departure of several dozen employees. Apple, which had 1,61,000 employees as of September, has mostly avoided layoffs since the outbreak, unlike most of its industry counterparts.
