Apple Restricts ChatGPT Usage For Employees: Report

Apple has restricted the use of artificial intelligence (AI) powered tool ChatGPT as it is developing a similar tool internally, according a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

Citing a document and sources, WSJ reported that Apple was concerned about usage of AI platforms by its employees which could be collecting confidential data from employees. The company has also banned Microsoft-owned GitHub’s Copilot, which is used by developers to automate code writing.

A bug in March allowed users to see the chat history of other ChatGPT users. After this incident, ChatGPT added the option to let users turn off their chat history via “incognito mode” and not contribute to training OpenAI’s training models.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Samsung also had restricted its employees from using AI-based tools at workplace citing concerns around data leak. According to a memo reviewed by Bloomberg, the Korean electronics major mentioned that its engineers accidentally leaked internal source code recently after uploading it to ChatGPT.

More companies including JPMorgan Chase and Verizon have also restricted the use of such platforms. Meanwhile, Amazon has asked its employees to utilise internal AI tools rather than third-party ones.

Interestingly, OpenAI launched its ChatGPT app for iOS users on Thursday in the US.
