Air India To Hire More Than 1,000 Pilots

Air India is looking to recruit more than 1,000 pilots as it plans to expand its operations in a growing aviation market in India.

"We are offering multiple opportunities and accelerated growth across our A320, B777, B787 and B737 fleet for captains and first officers, as well as trainers," it said, adding that more than 500 aircraft are joining its fleet", said an advertisement released for the said purpose.

Last month BW People had identified key employment generators in India's dynamic aviation industry.

As of now, 2,50,000 people are directly employed in the aviation and aeronautical manufacturing sector according to MoCA. This number is expected to grow to around 3,50,000 by 2024 and considering the volume of activity, it comes as no surprise that the numbers are likely to shoot up.

The accentuated numbers, in terms of demand for manufacturing and commercial services, suggest that the overall employment numbers are going to see a steep rise in the aviation industry.

Although the development from the Tata group-led airlines is a positive one, it is pertinent to note that the hiring spree comes at a time when existing Air India pilots are embroiled in a dispute regarding the revised pay structure.
