Indeed, has reported a 68 per cent rise in job seeker interest for delivery executive jobs from April 2021 to April 2023. This is directly proportional to the demand for jobs in this field, as job postings on the portal for delivery executives shot up by 17 per cent in the same period.
Chennai tops the list of cities with 11% interest (platform clicks), followed by Hyderabad and Bangalore. Tier 2 cities such as Ernakulam, Tiruchchirappalli, Madurai, Patna and Mohali contribute to 7 per cent clicks. With the expansion of quick-commerce beyond metro cities, there continues to be a trend for on-demand services for categories such as food, groceries, retail, and online shopping. More recently, this demand peaked during sports events and match days, leading to the rising demand for delivery executives across cities.
Commenting on the research report, Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales, Indeed India, said: “We are witnessing a positive growth in both demand and interest for talent-seeking jobs in delivery roles. Today, people are opting for side gigs in addition to their day jobs to increase personal income and contribute to the overall gig workforce in India. The growth of rental electric two-wheelers could be a contributing factor, with riders now being able to utilize vehicles on a need basis without blocking capital on down payments. We are receiving significant clicks on our platform across tier-2 cities, which is quite interesting. We foresee this to continue till the end of the year with the festive season approaching as well.”
There was a periodic slip in job interest from 80 per cent (2021-22) to 72 per cent (2022-23). We anticipate that job postings will continue to grow over the remainder of the year, consistent with the slowdown in economic conditions. The average salary for a delivery executive in India is almost two lakhs per year.
